Ms Kornélné Németh (Fidesz-KDNP) won the mayoral elections in Balatonszemes, Somogy county, on Sunday, the MTI informed the secretary of the Balatonszemes Joint Municipal Office.

Ibolya Szatmári said that Kornélné Németh, who has served as deputy mayor so far, received 529 valid votes, while Péter Farkas, Tamás Havasy 24 and János Borbély 19 received 19 valid votes. It reported that 834 of 1,527 voters on the shores of Lake Balaton voted, representing a 54.6 percent turnout. Five voted invalid.

The by-elections were necessary because Szilorú Szilárd (Fidesz-KDNP) resigned with effect from July 1.
