This is the third time that Hungary has participated in the European triennial survey, which aims to explore the living conditions of households. The mandatory survey in euro area member states is coordinated by the European Central Bank (ECB), which Hungary voluntarily joined six years ago. On behalf of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB), the Central Statistical Office (KSH) will also carry out the investigation this year, the MTI reported.

At European level, what do we live on? The survey measures real assets owned by households (such as real estate, personal property, vehicles, valuables, businesses) and financial assets (bank accounts, savings, investments, retirement savings). For participants, the voluntary and anonymous research also covers household responsibilities (debts, loans, and other loans).

The main objective of the survey is to provide comparable data on the wealth situation of households at the European level. The main objective of the research is to produce analyzes that fundamentally contribute to effective economic policy decisions at national and European level.

– explained Gabriella Vukovich, president of the CSO.

In mid-September, the agency will mail out 15,000 randomly selected participants living in 345 municipalities across the country. As in other European countries, the survey runs from September 15 to December 31 and questionnaires can be completed online between September 15 and November 30. Between the beginning of October and the end of December, the interviewers will visit the homes that they do not take advantage of to fill in online, complying with the sanitary and epidemiological regulations. Data acquisition takes between 20 and 40 minutes. The data will be aggregated by the ECB and it is expected that in 2022 the CSO and the MNB will also report their conclusions drawn from the data.
