According to the decision of the rector of last week, the school year will begin at the University of Theater and Film Arts (SZFE), said László Upor, vice-rector of the SZFE, who will leave at the end of September.
The outgoing management of the university asks the prime minister to suspend the board of trustees that will take over the maintenance rights of the institution.
The protests continue at the university, without giving up their previous demands because the SZFE community continues to insist on autonomy.
László Upor announced that an experimental school republic would be announced, whose activities would include traditional educational units, closed and open courses, as well as actions that reflect the situation of the university.
Eszter Novák, also outgoing Chancellor of Education, said three things were definitely missing in the process of changing the maintainer model: experience, honesty and humanity; students therefore feel “beaten.” As she said, “the university is made with a hundred wounds: a well-financed factory of lies has been trying to discredit for months, its values have been fundamentally questioned, its previously guaranteed autonomy has been completely lost, the senate and. leadership have resigned. “
However, the government said that this was not its responsibility, and the head of the Ministry of Innovation, which kept the university until this summer, and László Palkovics did not assume any responsibility, nor did the head of the Board. For this reason, the SZFE asks Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to listen to the representatives of the university, to listen to the 400 artists who asked for a fair “trial” for the university even before the change in maintenance, to listen to the message of the resigned Senate in defense of autonomy, that summons legislators. to create autonomy guarantees in the Higher Education Law, as well as to note the solidarity of many Hungarian and foreign institutions, professional organizations and artists on the continent and abroad with the SZFE. Eszter Novák asked the head of government to suspend the board of trustees of the foundation that maintains the university and start the process from the beginning, since the leaders, professors and students of the SZFE who are passing their time of dismissal have been ready to talk for some time half-year.
The strike committee of both the students and the employees of the SZFE will comply with their demands, the new leaders and the decisions made above them will not be accepted, so the blockade of the university building will be maintained in the Vas street, said the student representative.
