The Teachers’ Union (PSZ) wants distance education for at-risk educators, free testing at intervals set by epidemiologists, and 100 percent sick pay for those infected.
In a statement sent to MTI on Thursday, the advocacy organization said that after the fall break, it would be necessary to introduce hybrid education in elementary and upper secondary schools. This would divide the classes into two groups, one going to school a total of three days a week, two studying at home and exchanging the following week, thus reducing the number of encounters and therefore the risk of contagion.
The union summarized its claims for the death of a teacher infected by a coronavirus, which was not even included in the statistics. It is considered necessary to immediately order non-teaching days in public educational institutions where the virus appears and to order extracurricular education if the number of diseases increases.
In addition, they consider it important that everyone who is quarantined as an educator receives their full salary, as announced by the Minister of Human Resources, Miklós Kásler. It was also suggested that a public database be maintained on exactly how many students and how many educators were quarantined, and how many became infected, hospitalized, or died as a result of the Covid-19 infection.
Additionally, they see the need for the government to announce by October 12 exactly what security measures it plans to take during the upcoming fall graduation term. PSZ urged that these security measures be at least as strict as they were during the spring graduation period.
The union looks forward to the government’s actions as soon as possible and their announcement to avoid further tragedies.
