The epidemic situation is a good opportunity to merge MÁV and Volánbusz, the connection of the M2 subway and the GÉdöllő HÉV may be ruled out, the second phase of the interlacing of the Buddha may be lost, the extension of the M3 subway in Káposztásmegyer may be postponed, including the renewal of the tram line 2. In his letter to the government, István Tarlós, the former mayor, has been the prime minister’s commissioner responsible for developing national transport and public service infrastructure since the elections. Népszava has released the content of the letter written two months ago.
The letter states, among other things, that
- now would be a good time to merge MÁV and Volán in a hurry. Traffic on MÁV wing lines is light, Volán could easily trigger this. Furthermore, the merger would now hit more moderate waves (media, opposition, unions)
- With the temporary introduction of free parking, less public transportation can be achieved (this proposal has been implemented)
- The cogwheel project can be changed over time, but can even be permanently abandoned (renovation and extension), since passenger traffic is small, its use can be considered a nostalgic time travel and can easily be replaced by bus
- the chair lift can be closed because “interest in it is disappearing”
- the connection of the M2 metro and the Gödöllő HÉV can be rejected because it is very expensive and not economical. Tarlós describes in the letter that previously only the XVI. and XVII. supported the project for the benefit of the mayors of the district (Fidesz).
- The second phase of the Buda interlacing system, which would connect the BudaPart residential park and office district to the public transport network, may also be missed, as “the average income level of people applying there does not promise to be in line with public transport. “
- the extension of the M3 metro line to Káposztásmegyer may be postponed
- streetcar line 2 renewal may be postponed
- and replacing the water pressure line under the Pest spring
We contacted István Tarlós, who said he had written the letter two months ago. The question was what could be postponed due to the epidemic situation and what was not within a given circle. He said these are rational proposals, in his best belief he wrote them, he still believes he just needs to ask the transportation profession, like the Master Plan experts. He did not speak orally to Viktor Orbán about the proposals, nor did he receive an official response. He will not be outraged if not everyone accepts it, but the leak of the letter makes him think, he added.
In his opinion, for example, Libegő is an interesting place in Budapest, and he personally loves Cogwheels, but they cannot be compared to much more serious needs, such as financing the operation of public transport, renovating bridges or buying buses.
Should we spend 3 billion forints on the Gondola, while the Chain Bridge is rotting?
I raise.
When asked why the government now wants to postpone the promised 3 billion HUF BKV bus purchase for this year until next year, Tarlós said he disagreed with this proposal. In addition to the above, the construction of the P + R car parks, the construction of the Körvasútsori körút, the construction of the western section of the M0 and the renovation of the metro are first on their priority list.
It may have been a strong term to end the Uprising, but there are more important things for him.
Tarlos finally pointed out.
