On Wednesday, October 7, at midnight, the deadline set by the newly appointed rector of the University of Theater and Cinematographic Arts, Gábor Szarka, for the students blocked since the beginning of September and for the workers who have gone on strike since then expired. . Magpie promised the SZFE students that if the lockdown was lifted, they would not be penalized and that university staff would receive a pay increase if they were hired on time.

However, the undergraduate student and the strike committee indicated before the deadline that they would reject the new leadership’s offer. However, the chancellor still tried to enter the University of Theater and Film building on Vas Street on Thursday morning.

True to his promise, Sarka did not allow SZFE students into the building, so he held a press conference in front of the building. The new rector said that due to the situation, the university management is prevented from working, so today they will write in writing to the board of trustees of the foundation that maintains the SZFE to designate another location where they can begin to work.

To this day, it is not responsible for the operation of the buildings occupied by the occupants of the university, for the events and educational activities that take place in them, since it is not considered a legitimate form of expression of opinion. The fate of the recognition of the academic semester is now in the hands of the students, the new direction of SZFE is not responsible for the professional content of education.

He also announced that the new leadership will work on a full review of the university in the future.

The ministry released their hands

Students have repeatedly emphasized that they do not consider Vidnyánszky’s Board of Trustees and the leaders they appoint to be legitimate, but instead want to consult with the former head, the Ministry of Innovation and Technology. In relation to this, we recently contacted the Minister of Innovation and Technology, László Palkovics, to find out if he is willing to negotiate with the students to resolve the situation.

In a one-sentence answer, ITM wrote to Index that

As of September 1, 2020, the Foundation for Theater and Film Arts is the legal maintainer of the University of Theater and Film Arts.

From this it can be concluded that the ministry is reluctant to carry out further negotiations.

Acting students insist on lockdown

On Thursday, a group of SZFE students also held a press conference in front of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology building, announcing that they will insist on their previous demands and therefore will continue to demand the resignation of the Board and the restoration of the powers of the Board. Senate and university autonomy.

The SZFE also conducted a survey of students a few days ago, which found that 283 of the 353 full-time students completed their questionnaires. 95 percent of those surveyed consider the current board of directors illegitimate and believe that the blockade of its buildings should be maintained.

They don’t say who is going to teach

Index also reached out to the new president of the university to find out what the plans are with the performing arts after today’s events.

The only response from the answer was that the location of education has not yet changed, since it is not outsourced from one moment to the next, but they can no longer take responsibility for the activities that take place in the building.

We also asked Gábor Szarka with whom they want to run the university in the future, as the new rector had previously said that a third of the university’s employees had indicated in writing to the new management that they were not participating in the blockade, but rather wanted working with they.

The signatories to the declaration did not consent to the release of their names, and we respect that.

Answered.

We also wondered if they had already received a signal from the students to start their studies elsewhere. They may be thinking of starting a new admissions process if current students do not want to participate in the education they organize.

However, the new management did not want to provide information on this issue either.
