Index – National – Soros calls on EU to initiate lawsuit against Hungary

[ad_1]

György Soros, founder of the Central European University (CEU), issued a statement after the Court of Justice of the European Union upheld the European Commission’s objections to the infamous amendment to Hungary’s Higher Education Law in 2017 in a proceeding of infringement against the lex CEU. The businessman wrote:

The ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union that Hungary violates European law is a victory for the fundamental values of the European Union.

The decision came too late for the CEU. We cannot return to Hungary because the current laws do not meet the academic freedom requirements.

The Hungarian government continues to trample on EU legislation, the latest victim being the world famous University of Theater and Film Arts (SZFE). The EU is currently debating how to ensure that its funds are used in accordance with the rule of law. I call on the EU to take legal action against Hungary.
