Starting Monday, there will be soldiers in 93 hospitals to help with health tasks in defense against the coronavirus epidemic, the defense minister told public media.

Tibor Benkő emphasized that the soldiers do not perform a task that requires health professional training, they will mainly carry out physical and logistical work, they will also help with thermometry. His main task is to reduce the workload of health workers, said the politician according to the MTI.

He also spoke about the fact that since the disinfection work carried out in public educational institutions during the fall break, a request from the army has been received from several other places. Disinfection tasks are carried out continuously by soldiers, including volunteer reservists.

In addition, soldiers are involved in border security, border closure tasks and the provision of humanitarian corridors, the minister said.

Tibor Benkő was also asked about the fact that Mayor Gergely Karácsony and former Defense Minister Ferenc Juhász also expressed their disgust with the soldiers patrolling the weapon. In response, the Defense Minister emphasized that the weapons are equipped with individual weapons. He said duty regulations had been enacted since 1974, and the 2005 HM instruction also states that a soldier must conduct patrols, patrols with individual equipment. There is nothing new in this, the minister noted.
