Index – National – So good alone? Hungarian Unique Map Completed

Most Hungarian singles are men, most young people aged 20 to 39 live in Budapest, but their proportion is also high in Debrecen, Szeged and Pécs, according to research by sociologist Irén R, the first single Hungarian cartographer to settlement level.

Irén’s short work was published on the CSO website and she gave an interview to Népszava in connection with the study. He told the newspaper that at a longer or shorter stage in his life, everyone experiences what it’s like to be single, and that perhaps it seems to mean something different than it did a few decades ago. Although the t-shirt is not mostly a permanent living situation, it is clear from the statistics that a fairly populated field of society is made up of those who live alone, involuntarily. That is why the sociologist considers it important to know the single person better, since the big picture is not at all what the media suggests.

Initially, the study only looked at people between the ages of 20 and 39 who had no children and had never been married. This was later extended to singles living in their forties. The 2001 and 2011 censuses, as well as the 2016 microcensus, which covers a 10 percent sample of households, do not include data on whether singles are an obligation or a lifestyle choice, so neither can the researcher answer this question.

On the other hand, the sociologist believes that most tend to get carried away by this mostly non-permanent life situation. According to the 2016 microcensus data, the proportion of relationship-based households increased after 2011, while that of one-person households decreased, but three out of ten households were still one-person.
