The Transylvanian Hound does not need to be rescued, but it is time for Parliament to address it, Tibor Pelczéder, president of the Hungarian Transylvanian Dog Club breeders association, told the Index. As we reported: the Wildlife Protection, Wildlife Management and Hunting Act would be amended at the suggestion of István Simicskó to save the Transylvanian Hound.
The leader of the professional community dealing with the indigenous breed said the Transylvanian hound is a particularly healthy breed and they are consciously striving to include only healthy individuals in the already overgrown herd, through breeding. He also spoke about the fact that around 1,000 specimens live in Europe, 600-700 of them in Hungary.
Tibor Pelczéder said they approached István Simicskó and asked him to intervene for the good of the breed. As he said, it helps them a lot if the state helps the native breeds, but the Transylvanian dog-hunting ban is especially bad. Namely, the Transylvanian Hound was omitted from the list of native dog breeds that can be used in herding hunt under the current hunting law. As a result, hounds can currently only be used on wild boar shoots. The expert sees that, in essence, they cannot use the ability of the Transylvanian Hound, for which it was actually bred already in the Middle Ages.
Thus, the user loses its abrasion. You don’t have to be a breeder, a pro to figure it out: it’s not really good like that. Most hounds are still considered working dogs and are used or would be used primarily for hunting. This amendment is also necessary because herding hunts have become much more popular with those entitled to hunt in recent years (given that they have become a method of dog hunting and virtually any game can be shot on grazing) , so wild boar shoots have been left in the background. its use has also been reduced.
The president of the breed care company emphasized that one of the specialties and characteristics of the Transylvanian Dog breed is that when the desired game is near, it is indicated with a deep, and when the game begins, it is indicated with a bark strong and continues. This is of great help to the hunter, as he knows what to expect. This property is determined in the so-called Transylvanian dog instinct test, but could only be tested in live hunting, but this is not currently possible.
Of course, we do not want to break the law, which is why we want Parliament to vote in favor of the amendment and for it to be able to use our beloved breed of dog when hunting shepherds.
– He said Tibor Pelczéder, a President of the Hungarian Transylvanian Clothing Club.
The Transylvanian hound is an ideal dog for children and families, which also performs very well in dog sports, but is prohibited in exactly the activity in which it is best. What kind of hunting dog is it that cannot hunt? The ban also leaves professional breeding in the background, since it is not possible to study the breed in its real environment.
The club leader said that several expiring articles had been published about the Transylvanian dog, where the breed was named a bloodthirsty and wildly dangerous dog. Not to mention, the expert said, that anonymous hunters have made statements that match the credibility of the often-cited British scientists.
We really only want the Transylvanian dog, which is part of our cultural heritage, in its entirety, in fact the
it would survive with its unique and inimitable qualities and could do what was cultivated many hundreds of years ago.
To this end, the use of hunting of the endangered Hungarian breed would be allowed.
