Due to the coronavirus epidemic, there have been strict rules in public transport for months: from May the use of a mask and a safety distance of one and a half meters on trains and buses are mandatory, and from November throughout the station area. For breaking the rules, big name passengers can expect a fine and also something to be excluded from the trip.

Anyone who has traveled with InterCity from Graz to the Budapest-Keleti train station on Monday morning had a hard time complying with these regulations – the video we received from a reader shows it.

According to our reader, most of the seats purchased online were almost all in a single car, while others were almost empty, so a huge uproar developed in the car. In the cabin train, passengers could not maintain the distance of one and a half meters, but also 20 centimeters during the train journey of several hours.

In this case, we also contacted the press department of GYSEV Zrt., Who wrote that

On December 28, due to the failure of Austria’s seat reservation system, it was only possible to issue Intercity tickets, IC replacement and tickets for train number 317 in a limited way. Thus, the situation may have arisen that instead of three, they could only sell tickets for one car through the Hungarian ticketing systems.

The railway company also stated that The problem is already being worked on in Austria, however

a similar situation may occur in the following days,

therefore, to avoid more serious congestion, train attendants direct passengers to the remaining available seats. Temporarily, this will ensure an even distribution of passengers on trains and maintain the correct distance.
