Index – National – Opposition says the Szájer scandal poses a credibility problem for the Orbán government

The Index asked Hungarian MEPs about the Szájer scandal: what impact it could have on Fidesz’s positions in EU politics and whether they consider a secret service thread conceivable.

According to Gyöngyösi, he loses the credibility of the entire Orbán course

Márton Gyöngyösi, Member of the European Parliament for Jobbik, told Index, shocked to learn of the József Szájer scandal, if only because he gave a completely different explanation for his resignation. The right-wing MEP called it regrettable that the statement by the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament praised the work of József Szájer and his contribution to bourgeois Christian-conservative values.

What someone does in their private life, in a private home, or what is their sexual orientation, or what is their attitude towards light drug use – which is otherwise liberal in this respect – in Belgium it could even be a matter private.

– said Márton Gyöngyösi, who said

the problem is rather the staggering gap between what József Szájer rhetorically represented as a Fidesz politician and what he has now justified with his actions.

The right-wing MEP stressed that he did not want to judge anyone, but the József Szájer scandal was a credibility problem, especially after the Borkai case, which was also an example of the life of the main Fidesz politicians while representing the Christian. conservative values.

Loses credibility of the entire Orbán course

Added.

According to Márton Gyöngyösi, the Szájer scandal or the collection of signatures with the aim of excluding Tamás Deutsch from the European People’s Party, for example, is difficult to abstract from the fact that the Hungarian and Polish governments have vetoed a budget veto in the field. of the EU due to the rule of law criterion.

The right-wing MEP is concerned that Hungary’s ability to enforce its interests has deteriorated significantly recently. And if Fidesz leaves the most prestigious family of parties, the European People’s Party, and continues to politicize the EU, either independently or by joining a more radical right-wing faction, it will be humiliating for them, while it will be a disaster for Hungary.

In the Szájer case, Márton Gyöngyösi would not rule out the participation of the secret services, but at the same time emphasized that attempts to trivialize Fidesz’s propaganda should not be allowed either, because

no secret service could force the Fidesz politician to attend a closed sex party during curfew.

Katalin Cseh does not believe that Szájer accidentally met at a “house party”

We were also able to contact Katalin Cseh, Member of the European Parliament for Momentum, regarding the Szájer scandal. He doesn’t believe in secret service manipulation, either. He said it was a toast to how much an experienced deputy did not follow epidemiological rules while:

tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of Belgians did not see their parents. They may not be able to go home on Christmas and yet they are so ignorant of the rules, plus they try to escape the police at the eaves …

It is a “mistake” where I seek the responsibility of József Szájer, not a conspiracy that Fidesz wants to suggest.

Added Katalin Cseh, who said that Fidesz would lose a lot by giving up Szájer, as his professional work was recognized by many. The MEP recalled that there are many contradictions in the European Parliament that go beyond Szájer’s diplomatic attitude:

With the loss of József Szájer, Fidesz has failed an influential politician, but he is by no means the key to resolving disputes over the rule of law, Katalin Cseh said.

As long as Viktor Orbán politicizes as he does now … As long as you veto the European community with his veto, and while allowing himself to make quite horrible and unacceptable statements in defense, whether the current head of the Fidesz EP delegation, Tamás Deutsch, or other Fidesz cashiers The case of Demeter Szilárd has also been silenced in Brussels; Until then, no one can save Fidesz’s reputation.

According to Katalin Cseh, Fidesz doesn’t mind being completely on the edge of a carpet in Brussels. They don’t want to fit into this environment, ”he said.

Another problem is that Hungary will lose quite a few billions of guilders as a result, which is very necessary to restore the economy. Furthermore, this loan, which is a burden on the public debt, has just been contracted, just so that Viktor Orbán can prove it in the EU negotiations.

It would be hard for me to imagine a more irresponsible politicking.

Added.

The rule of law mechanism does not harm anyone who is fair or who needs this money. It only hurts the oligarchs who profit from putting this money in their pockets.

Katalin Cseh told Index.

Ujhelyi doesn’t believe in conspiracy theories

István Ujhelyi, Member of the European Parliament of the MSZP, also managed to reach the Index by phone. The opposition spokesman said he spoke with several MPs from the Popular Party after the outbreak of the Szájer affair. According to Ujhelyi

it has become completely cyclical to represent Fidesz within the Popular Party.

The MSZP politician sees that the Popular Party’s position on the Hungarian veto will be radicalized after the Szájer scandal.

Although the two cases, the collection of signatures for the exclusion of Tamás Deutsch and the scandal of the resigned deputy, are totally independent of each other, they remain related. Szájer was previously Weber’s number one deputy, previously he had defended Fidesz within the Popular Party, but today he has become a drag.

The People’s Party will have a forum in the spring, where the exclusion of Fidesz can be discussed again, but in the PE faction, this process is still going on, according to Ujhelyi. The MP sees that even due to the veto of the EU budget, there has been astonishing anger and outrage among MPs from the People’s Party, which has now been compounded by the Szájer scandal. According to him, the Fidesz politician has so far spoken from a moral stage, which has now turned to dust.

However, Ujhelyi does not believe there is a secret service game in the background, he stated:

does not believe in conspiracy theories.

If it had been an earlier recording that is now being taken out of it, one might suspect it. However, Szájer went to this “house party” of his own free will.

Ujhelyi thinks.

Rónai says there have never been so many possibilities to expel Fidesz from the Popular Party

Sándor Rónai, representative of the Democratic Coalition, told the Index that he believes that the Fidesz hay is even worse in the PE faction than in the Popular Party.

As with the Borkai case last year, now Fidesz is in trouble over the Szájer case.

Rónai said the matter was also causing serious problems internationally, with countless foreign colleagues writing to ask him.

Regarding the collection of signatures initiated on the occasion of the expulsion of Tamás Deutsch, he said that he is the head of the Fidesz delegation, if he is expelled, all members of the government parties can also be removed from the faction.

The deputy considers that Szájer has not been a victim of revenge,

this is solely due to Fidesz themselves.

According to Ujhelyi, there is no connection between the EU budget veto and the Szájer case, but opposition to Fidesz has intensified.

The many homophobic statements, the many talk about conservative values, everything has now collapsed. While singing an ode to family holiness at home, they go to illegal sex parties elsewhere.

The DK MEP told the Index.

We do not receive any response

We contacted György Hölvényi, a KDNP MEP, by phone, but we did not want to answer our questions regarding the Szájer case. Pedro López, communications director for Grupo EP in the European People’s Party, told Index:

The group does not comment on the Boca case. This is a private matter for the MEP who made the right decision by resigning and apologizing.
