The momentary Zoltán Keresztes and the former independent LMP, Csaba Komlósi, who has been independent, have also left the mayor’s faction, which was the majority until now, opposition politicians announced at their press conference on Friday.

The two deputies justified their departure by claiming that

have had enough of the leadership style of former mayor Ádám Mirkóczki,

In his opinion, the mayor in turn has made decisions in which he has not agreed with his faction. They also indicated at the press conference that they are nevertheless preparing for a fair opposition role, not with the aim of making opposition cooperation impossible.

Komlósi also explained in a longer post on his Facebook page why he decided to leave.

In October of last year, in addition to the position of mayor, the Association for the City, which groups together opposition parties, acquired only six deputies, while Fidesz received only six, and Nuestro País and a local NGO received one each. However, with the departure of the two deputies, the mayor lost his majority in the assembly of Eger.

The tension has been palpable for a long time

Ádám Mirkóczki became mayor last year as a man of the right, but this summer he announced that he was leaving the party. One day he replaced his former deputy mayor, the socialist Zita Mirkóczki – who is his second cousin and mayor of the MSZP – and replaced him with the also socialist Attila Farkas.

A parallel can be drawn between his departure from Jobbik and the replacement of the deputy mayor, according to our political affairs source in Eger, who also revealed that

not only the two deputies are leaving now dissatisfied with the leadership style of the city of Mirkóczki.

The opposition parties, however, are working to “not be bad in the city” and avoid a situation similar to that of Göd, where the municipality has been practically paralyzed by apparently intractable personal conflicts.

The departure of the two deputies does not mean a similar situation yet, but if he does not treat politicians as partners and does not reach a compromise with them in the coming months, it could easily be a burning deficit for Mirkóczki next year when the budget. This may eventually even incorporate a new option.
