To date, more than 50,000 people have downloaded an application called VirusRadar, which helps to contact researchers with coronavirus infections, the undersecretary of State for Digitization at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology said Thursday.

Károly Balázs Solymár added that this would still require some downloads, around 1-3 million. He noted that the application uses a bluetooth connection to record the encrypted identification of devices that are within two meters for at least a quarter of an hour. In case of infection, the user can decide whether to share the data recorded by the phone with epidemiologists. The purpose of the app, MTI writes, is to help with contact research, as infected people often don’t remember exactly who they knew or don’t know, but the app can also identify them.
