About 1,600 social institutions have been closed due to the coronavirus epidemic, which affects about 100,000 people, Attila Fülöp, Secretary of State for Social Affairs at the Human Resources Ministry, said on the morning show on Kossuth Radio.
The Secretary of State reported that the prohibition of visits and exit from the institution ordered by the National Chief Physician applies to institutions that care for residential, elderly, disabled, psychiatric or addicted patients. By September 1, 3 percent of 1,600 such institutions were affected by the epidemic, meaning that ninety-seven out of 100 institutions were not even infected, Attila Fülöp noted.
So, at the national level, we can safely say that the institutional system of social care, thanks to the work of those who work there, is well examined.
– said the Secretary of State. According to Attila Fülöp, only one area “hangs” on this, namely the capital, which is responsible for some thirty such institutions, but this was the focal point of the problem. Two-thirds of fatal infections can be attributed to institutions in Budapest, meaning that they were not well treated and were often violated by law, the Secretary of State noted. He stressed that the question is not whether the infection reaches a particular institution, but what has been done to prevent it and, if the epidemic hits its head, how will it be treated.
