Deputy Mayor Dávid Dorosz posted on his Facebook page Thursday night to present his resignation to Mayor Gergely Karácsony today. The Budapest Deputy Mayor for Climate Protection and Development will start his registration as follows:

“The government is doing everything possible so that the work of the capital is impossible, so in the next period wants to serve the people of Budapest and Hungary with all his energy, working for a change of government.”

In a letter to David, Doros writes that they knew for a year that a difficult job awaited them. However, the government is not only gnawing, but is pursuing a policy of bleeding and impossibility against the capital. Despite this, the capital’s largest climate adaptation program to date, the Cooling Budapest action, was carried out with the confidence of the capital city’s General Assembly, with dozens of new drinking water wells and islands of cooling, which relieved tens of thousands every day in the summer heat. The first phase of the Pest spinning mill was completed, we renovated several major roads in Budapest and delivered the M3 noise barrier. We have saved the Béke tér main collection canal project, worth 3.7 billion, which will take effective measures against the more frequent lightning floods due to climate change, he enumerates.

In comparison, what did the government do? This week alone, the tax on water utilities paid by Capital Waterworks was raised four and a half times, causing it to pay a special tax of 3.2 billion a year. This example proves it in itself: In addition to all the professional results, a political response must be given to the newer and newer, more and more vile government attacks on the destructive policy of bleeding in Budapest and local governments in general. Instead of responsible governance, cities are being looted, especially Budapest. As the deputy responsible for events, I cannot stand idly by the fact that Viktor Orbán and his outsiders in Budapest make all development impossible.

– said David Doros, adding that last year’s lesson has been clear to him that the answer to the government’s policy of revenge can only be the 2022 change of government.

As long as this government is in place, the attack on Budapest and the people of Budapest will be constant. […] So the only real answer to this situation is a change of government in 2022. If Viktor Orbán remains after 2022, the democratic ideal of self-government can hit him, the green and fair future of Budapest can hit him.

– he emphasized, concluding that, after a long struggle, he had decided to resign as deputy mayor with effect from December 31, 2020. He described as a great honor to be able to work for Budapest as deputy mayor, adding: “his friendship with Gergely Christmas is old, her alliance has not changed ”.

Soon after, Gergely Karácsony reacted to the resignation of Dávid Dávid in a Facebook post, while writing, Dávid is right in what he writes in his letter: The future of Budapest and the local government are also at stake in the next elections.

With a heavy heart, but aware of the importance of the change of government, after much discussion, I decided to accept David’s resignation. Our friendship and alliance were never based on positions, but on our common values and mutual respect. I would like to thank Dávid for his work for Budapest and the programs he started.
