Thanks to a Hungarian-owned molecular diagnostics company, the revolutionary one-step coronavirus test called AzureSeq. The unique PCR assay was developed by Omixon Biocomputing Kft. The test is also of great importance because it can detect coronavirus faster and easier. Hungary’s Semmelweis University participated in the testing of the new diagnostic procedure; it can be read on the institution’s website. According to the rector Dr. Béla Merkely, the test will be used more and more in the future due to its speed and efficiency.

“The classic PCR test is based on the detection of virus RNA extracted from the sample. RNA extraction is a slow, time-consuming and expensive process, so there was a great need for a test that does not require RNA extraction, but can be detected directly from the sample taken, ”said Dr. Barna Vásárhelyi , director of the Institute of Laboratory Medicine at Semmelweis University, participated in the preliminary examination of the device.

The newly developed one-step test was developed in collaboration with a California company and has exclusive distribution rights in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
