Index – National – How much do parliamentarians earn?

[ad_1]

In the first part of our series, we looked at the salaries of municipal representatives and then we continued the line with the salaries of mayors. While there are no uniform calculation rules for municipal representatives, it is much more transparent for mayors how much they earn. The situation is similar for members of parliament.

Under the current law on the National Assembly, a member of Parliament is entitled to a monthly allowance.

The monthly parliamentary allocation for the period from March 1 of the current year to the end of February of the following year is three times the average monthly gross income of the national economy for the year prior to the current year, officially published by the Central Statistical Office (CSO).

– read the law.

The starting number, which we have to multiply, can be found on the OSC website. It was in April that we wrote that the deputies had been given a pay raise. However, the increase is such that as of March the average gross income of the previous year was taken into account in the calculation of the membership fees.

According to the CSO report, in 2019 the average gross salary 367 800 it was HUF, which is 11.4 percent more than the previous year. So all that happened in the spring was that this amount was used to recalculate the salaries of the deputies, which are valid until the end of February.

  • The base salary of a representative is three times the average gross salary of HUF 367,800: gross monthly 1 103 400 florin. As we wrote earlier, without the family tax benefits, this means 733,761 net monthly HUF.
  • A member of a standing committee or a committee representing nationalities receives 1.2 times the base salary: gross 1 324080 florin.
  • A member of the Legislative Committee or at least two committees receives 1.4 times the base salary: gross 1 544 760 florin.
  • The leader of a political group, that is, the leader of a political group, receives twice the basic salary: gross 2 206 800 florin. Parliamentary faction leader: Máté Kocsis (Fidesz), István Simicskó (KDNP), Péter Jakab (Jobbik), Bertalan Tóth (MSZP), Lórló László Keresztes (LMP), Ferenc Gyurcsány (DK), Tímea) Szabó (Diálogo). The deputy head of the faction receives 1.7 times the basic salary: 1,875,780 gross HUF.
  • The Speaker of the House / Speaker of the National Assembly (i.e. László Kövér) receives 2.7 times the basic salary: gross 2979 180 florin. Vice Presidents are twice the base salary, gross 2 206 800 florin. Vice-Presidents of Parliament: Csaba Hende (Fidesz), Kolenn Brenner (Jobbik), István Hiller (MSZP), István Jakab (Fidesz), János Latorcai (KDNP), Sándor Lezsák (Fidesz).

Starting next March, the salaries of the deputies may increase even more, because in the period from January to September of this year, the CSO calculated an average gross salary of 395,000 HUF.
