Index – National – Home Renovation Program: Reaches 3 million!

In mid-October, it emerged that the government would launch a home renovation program after home protection grants for family protection action plans. At the time, it was known that half of their home renovation costs for families raising at least one child would be borne by the state with one bill, up to a maximum of HUF 3 million.

Details revealed this week, the Index is now answering the most common tricky questions about the home improvement program.

1. When will the home renovation program begin?

The program will start early next year, and only for renewals started after January 1, 2021, the support possibility can be used.

2. What type of property is eligible for home renovation support?

Users can renovate, beautify, expand and modernize their existing homes.

3. What can the amount of the home renovation program be spent on?

Outdoor and indoor work, which can be spent on both material and labor costs, can be accounted for.

4. Could you be a little more specific?

These can be, for example:

  • kitchen renovation
  • bathroom renovation
  • utility connection
  • heating system upgrade, replace
  • purchase of a new boiler / boiler
  • external-internal insulation
  • design of an interior gallery or staircase
  • roof replacement, roof renovation
  • building a solar system
  • summer kitchen or garage renovation
  • paint and decorate
  • Carpenter jobs

5. How much money does the state provide under the home renovation program?

The maximum amount of aid can be a total of 3 million HUF. Material costs and labor fees can be claimed in half. This means that if the renovation costs 6 million HUF and one part is material costs and the other part is labor costs, then half of them can benefit from both subsidies. Therefore, 1.5 to 1.5 million HUF can be charged for labor and material costs.

6. What conditions do we have to meet to be eligible for home renovation support?

One of the minimum conditions is the exemption of public debt, as well as a continuous pension relationship of at least one year. This could be a higher education relationship or an employment relationship that has been terminated for a maximum of 30 days in the last year.

7. Can the unemployed also be eligible?

Yes. Under some conditions. Those who have lost their job will also take into account the job seeker assignment for the last three months. Also, all retirement work is included.

8. For how many children do families receive support?

Those who are raising at least one child in the family can take the opportunity. For the purpose of receiving maintenance, it is a child or, in the same way, a 25-year-old who lives with the family. If the child has a disability, is disabled or entitles his parents to childcare benefit, the child’s age does not count towards the benefit.

9. Are divorced and single parents entitled to help with home renovation?

Yes. Couples and life partners can ask for support, as well as parents raising their children and children alone. If one of the parents raises the child or children alone, they are entitled to the allowance.

10. Can divorced and separated parents who have joint custody of a child share the home renovation allowance?

Here too the answer is yes. If they are equally involved in raising the child, the parents can share the allowance for home renovation. The amount is the same for them.

11. Can the application be submitted more than once?

No. Each family can only benefit from Home Renovation Support once. If you sell the apartment, you do not have to pay back the subsidy, but you can no longer use it. A new owner who has purchased the property and has not previously used the home renovation program can do so for the same apartment.

12. Does the state lend or pay for overdue renovation costs?

The costs of the renovation of the house will be paid in advance by the families themselves, and then the money will be returned to the Hungarian State Treasury (MÁK) upon subsequent request.

13. What needs to be submitted, what kind of administration is needed to get the grant?

In all cases, a contract must be concluded with the contractors for the work, for which the Katalin Novák portfolio provides a simple model contract. In addition, all invoices for material costs and labor costs must be made, and then all must be sent to MÁK within 60 days after the completion of the work. The process can also be done entirely electronically.

14. When will the family receive the amount of the subsidy for home renovation?

MÁK has 30 days to evaluate the grant and then disburse the grant amount within 5 days. Therefore, a waiting period of 30 + 5 days is needed for the family to recoup the money invested in the renovation of their home.

15. Will it be verified that the house has really been renovated?

Yes. This will be the responsibility of government agencies. Government agencies will have a total of six months from receiving the money to examine whether the renovation, for which the families have benefited from state aid, has actually been carried out. The inspection will take place within six months of receipt of the state aid.
