The decision also names the person who makes the termination and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade will take the necessary measures.

Completion of the CER was on the agenda for the September 22 session. Tamás Vargha, Secretary of State for Civil Intelligence at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (KKM), asked parliament to authorize the termination of the headquarters agreement announced in 2014 between the government and the Central and Eastern Europe Regional Environmental Center.
The center was declared insolvent at the end of 2018, but the consensual dissolution of the organization was not implemented due to the abstention of the parties, Hungary now wants to leave the organization unilaterally, one of whose conditions is the termination of the headquarters agreement, explained the Secretary of state.

Opposition to the decision

Opposition MPs protested the proposal, the LMP strongly stated that it did not support the proposal, and other speakers opposed the unilateral termination of the agreement.

Tibor Nunkovics (Jobbik) called the proposal surprising because he believes it is an institution that has put a lot on the table in recent years, but as of 2018 it will not really fulfill its role. But the task would not be to end it, but to fix the fate of the institution, save it, he said.

Gergely Arató (DK) also stated that there are still many open questions. It is an important institution, he said, whose operation has enjoyed great prestige in Hungary. He said it is worrying that Hungary is ending the agreement unilaterally.

László Keresztes Lóránt (LMP) affirmed that his faction does not support the proposal, because it is practically the impossibility of the operation of this important institution, said the reporter.

The Central and Eastern European Regional Environmental Center (REC) was founded in 1990 by the US, the EU and Hungary, with a contribution of US $ 5 to 5 million and the EU. The REC letter has been signed by 31 countries and the European Commission. The office network operates in 17 countries, the central office building in Hungary. REC addresses the issue of sustainable development and has organized around 4,000 projects since 1990. Besides the region, there were also projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America – writes daily.hu.
