Due to the expected peak of the coronavirus epidemic during the Advent period, this year’s Christmas market in Vörösmarty square will be missed. Most of the artisans and craftsmen applying for the fair have a web shop where shoppers can choose their gifts online, the Budapest Tourism and Festival Center writes in its ad.

The coronavirus epidemic, according to preliminary estimates by health professionals and government statements, will reach its peak in the Advent period, that is, at the end of November and December. This prognosis is supported by the trend in recent weeks of a record increase in morbidity and mortality. Therefore, taking into account the guidelines of the operating tribe, it was decided that the holding of the fair would endanger the life, health or physical integrity of the participants. With the rise of epidemiological data, the large cities of neighboring countries are preparing a similar measure and hardening the celebration of similar events.

BFTK is also launching a campaign in which everyone will be encouraged to buy Hungarian applied arts products for Christmas, thus supporting artisans in a difficult situation due to the epidemic.

BFTK supports Hungarian artisans in this difficult situation, that is why it is planning a campaign to help them, within the framework of which we ask the population to buy and donate artisan products also for the holidays this year.

– said Csaba Faix, managing director of BFTK.

Most of the artisans who applied for the fair have an online shop, where shoppers can choose their gifts online, thus supporting the Hungarian artisan and creative industry.

Csaba Faix added.

Why does someone go to Christmas fairs?

Truffle mulled wine, mineral chive pie, giant knuckle plates, horrible prices. Budapest Christmas fairs are a burden on people’s body, soul, mind and wallet.
