It is not entirely true that the capital received a more favorable offer for the renovation of the Chain Bridge, as the price did not decrease, but increased by HUF 5 billion, wrote Dávid Vitézy, CEO of the Budapest Development Center.

On Thursday, the Budapest City Council issued an announcement that the Chain Bridge could be renovated on more favorable terms, after an offer of 8.5 billion HUF cheaper than before for the implementation of the investment was received. As it was written this way, instead of the previous 35.3 billion HUF, the Chain Bridge can be renovated from the lowest price so far, 26.8 billion HUF.

However, according to Dávid Vitézy, the current offer of 26.8 billion cannot be compared with the previous one, as the Mayor’s Office does, since it included the reconstruction of the tram underpass in Széchenyi István square, the reserve framework and VAT . In this previous offer

the part corresponding to the renovation of the Chain Bridge amounted to HUF 21.3 billion gross, which must be measured for the current supply.

The current new lowest bid of 26.8 billion gross HUF refers only to the renovation of the Chain Bridge, the new bid does not include the layout of the Széchenyi István Square, the tram tunnel or the renovation of the Castle Tunnel.

Therefore, the price of the Chain Bridge renovation increased by more than 5 billion HUF over the past year compared to the tender prices announced by the previous municipal administration and then canceled by the current municipal administration earlier. 2020 for incomprehensible reasons. In comparison, 7-8 of these new CAF trams would be available for purchase.

When asked where the 6 billion forint subsidy promised by the government for the renovation of the bridge is delayed, Vitézy replied:

On October 15 this year, Resolution No. 2 / 2020-10-15 / FKT of the Budapest Government Public Development Council Grant of HUF 6 billion was awarded and as shown in the document stipulated officially in the agreement of the capital city and the Government that would be paid under the last contract for the execution of the bridge renovation contract, which does not expire before 2022 according to the current calendar.
