Index – National – Choose Lake Balaton Town, Where Crusher Worked Hard

The quiet, winding and hilly streets of Balatonszepezd are hardly passable by passersby. The weather, which is almost winter, is not conducive to talking with the people who live here about the future of the town. And how would it be, because today interim municipal elections are being held in the town, four independent candidates compete for the position of mayor: the current mayor, Bocskov Petrov Jordan, respectively Imre Bíró, Gábor Selmi and Péter Szász. The 390 voters of the municipality can choose between 13 candidates for the four future representatives.

The selection was not always that good. Almost exactly a year ago, in the 2019 municipal elections, Szepezd was one of only two settlements in Hungary where people waited with ballots, but only four candidates could be nominated, not mayoral candidates. The number of the former was exactly as many as there are seats in the House of Representatives, that is, it meant a theoretically safe position if someone received at least 1, that is, a valid vote. In the no-bet election, 124 of the 390 voters on the list went to the polls.

Due to the absence of the mayor, a new by-election was announced and the opportunity sparked local political entrepreneurship as much as anywhere else, as fourteen people left for the title in the small town on the shores of Lake Balaton. In the December 8 poll, no one voted for four candidates, two others voted 1-1 and 2-2, respectively. The winner was Bocskov Petrov Jordan, who now tells the Index that

The post of mayor of a settlement on Lake Balaton offers more opportunities than anywhere else in the country, perhaps that’s why so many have started.

By the way, he himself had recently moved to Szepezd. One of his current rivals, Imre Bíró, who did not start last December, also points out that few townspeople knew the mayor before the elections. Bocskov Petrov Jordan has already brought a new color because virtually no one has campaigned before him, but conflicts with his style have arisen. Although a lot was expected of the mayor, Imre Bíró says, his managerial attitude was unusual for them, and they also complained that he simply left others out of the decisions aimed at the collective. They couldn’t even stay together for long, the joint work lasted only seven months and in June the board was dissolved.

Meanwhile, the fact that the mayor told the mayor in February that his office documents would be destroyed was also not good for the mood. Five bags. The papers that were destroyed have not been disclosed since, as the police ended the investigation, but four staff members also terminated their jobs for various reasons.

As for the current possibilities, Bocskov Petrov Jordan hopes that as many voters as possible will vote. When asked what would happen if he had to work with the Former House again, all he said was:

There is a mathematical possibility that the core of the future board will come from new beginners.

But Imre Bíró, who is running for the first time as mayor, is also optimistic has been a member of the Board of Representatives in some capacity for four terms.

now we have finally reunited and parted together again.

He thinks that while he is running as a candidate for mayor, as a candidate for deputy, the other four people are behind him, with whom he will form a team and lead the village. Officially, by the way, each mayoral candidate is running independently, and that’s now left to the voters, who could be the four people who could work together for Szepezd.
