On Tuesday, András Pikó, VIII. The mayor of Csepel, Lénárd Borbély, also wrote on his community page on Monday that their condition had deteriorated after contracting the virus, and they were being helped with oxygen. In Csepel, the deputy mayor, Attila Ábel, was also infected with the coronavirus, but in recent days it has also been found that several politicians and representatives of local governments tested positive.

In view of the epidemiological situation, Gergely Karácsony initiated an amendment to the law that would allow the Budapest General Assembly to be held online.

Among the decisions scheduled for today, the revocation of the decree on the use of mask has been made public, the previous capital decree will be overwritten by the government decree, it is in force. It is still important and reasonable to follow the rules for taking care of ourselves, others, and our loved ones. That is what I am asking of you all. The worsening of the epidemic situation requires a responsible attitude on the part of all decision makers, sometimes difficult decisions, clear communication and serious consideration of the experts’ suggestions. We stick to that

– said Gergely Karácsony on his community page.

The Index wrote on Monday that a decree of the Metropolitan Municipality, which regulates epidemiological protection and the use of masks, is in conflict with the constitution.

21/2020 of the General Assembly of the Budapest City Council on certain measures necessary to control the spread of the new type of coronavirus. (IV.23) contains several constitutionally objectionable provisions regarding face covering

Our newspaper reported.

The Orbán government decree of September 21 toughens the rules on the use of masks. While local governments state that a scarf, shawl or any other suitable device to catch the exhaled drops must cover the face completely and continuously, according to the government.

With the exception of one child under the age of six, everyone should wear a medical mask, a safety mask, or a mask made of cloth or other material so that it covers the nose and mouth at all times.

In response to the Index article, Mayor Gergely Karácsony confirmed that the Budapest Municipality should revoke its decree on the wearing of masks in Budapest. On Monday, on his social network, he wrote:

At the General Assembly on Wednesday, we will repeal the regulation on the wearing of masks in Budapest, because it violates the government decree, which is a high-level law. According to the government decree, a scarf is no longer enough to cover the face, we all have to wear a mask that completely covers both the nose and the mouth.

However, with the absence of Wednesday’s session, this is exactly what has now failed, which is why the controversial legal situation persists.
