On Thursday, the local government’s proposal to sell the Hotel Avas building will be presented to the General Assembly of Miskolc, announced Mayor Pál Veres on his Facebook page.

Last October, the opposition parties won in Miskolc, where, in addition to the position of mayor, they also obtained a stable majority in the General Assembly. Veres called Hotel Avas a “shame of the city” in the election campaign, now saying that “as a result of many months of persistent and hard work, it can finally find a new owner and, most importantly, a responsible and responsible owner. good”.

One that not only restores one of Miskolc’s iconic buildings worthy of its former glory, but also provides it with new and useful features.

The Avas Hotel would be bought by the municipality’s Mathias Corvinus Collegium de Balázs Orbán to provide a talent development program for elementary and middle school students and young students after the renovation of the building, which has been in a tragic condition for many decades.

The mayor also mentioned in the video that in addition to the talent development center, the hotel halls would also function as event venues for “the general public and the citizens of Miskolc.”

The Avas Hotel (formerly Hotel Korona) was closed in 1987, since then it has changed ownership several times, its condition has deteriorated year after year, and finally, after many years of litigation, the building was bought back by the municipality of Miskolc in 2015.

Zoltán Szalai, general director of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium, confirmed to the Index that if the municipality announces a tender for the sale and use of the hostel, the MCC intends to initiate it. The MCC has been present in the city since 2015, and currently 100 students participate in the program for upper secondary students.

The MCC would transform the building into a talent center for its programs, with an internal student dormitory for 80 to 100 people, but plans to build a cafeteria, restaurant, and community space.

How much is that?

When asked how much the investment will cost, Szalai could not say the exact amount, but the complete reconstruction of the listed building.

IT IS LIKELY TO COST MILLIONS OF BILLIONS

that the MCC intends to cover from its own resources if it applies for the property successfully.

They would also like to install hotel functions in the building delivered in 1894, and the proceeds would be used to maintain and develop the building and expand their free talent management program.

Secretary of State Balázs Orbán, president of the Board of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium, also communicated on the community page about the expansion in Miskolc, thanked those who support the program on his Facebook page and recalled that

Talent management is not a political party, but a national issue.
