The public port of Csopak was sold for HUF 889.87 million in an electronic auction announced by the Hungarian National Asset Administration, which closed on Wednesday night. The auction was accompanied by unexpected interest, which is also demonstrated by the fact that all three bidders constantly compromised even at the last minute, he added.

Balaton’s shipment (Bahart) Zrt. – which became majority state property managed by the Hungarian Tourism Agency last year – included in its reorganization plan the sale of four public ports. Following local protests, the shipping company offered interested municipalities to lease the ports to them for the long term instead of selling them. Three of them accepted the offer, but an agreement with Csopak could not be reached, so the property was announced at auction.

Tibor Ambrus said that the 2.8 thousand square meter area consists of a pier that cannot be closed to public traffic and a public park of just two thousand square meters, which includes about fifty meters of shoreline. The buildability in this area is two percent, which is also covered by the port box building and the water block, according to local building regulations, the maximum allowed installation height is four and a half meters. According to him, the 10-12 berth marina that belongs to the property can be expanded to a maximum of 20-30 berths.

He recalled that during the negotiations with Bahart, the four interested municipalities offered to buy their port for sale at the highest price set by the appraisers, which also served as the basis for the starting price, but did not have the opportunity to do so.

József Kollár told MTI that no official written statement or offer had been received from Csopak regarding the intention to buy before the port was announced.
