Depending on the epidemic situation, Turkey would appreciate Hungary’s scientific and professional cooperation in the third clinical phase of testing its own coronavirus vaccine, Foreign and Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó said in a meeting with the minister. of Turkish Health, Fahrettin Koca, in Ankara on Monday.
Speaking to MTI, Péter Szijjártó spoke about the fact that the Ankara initiative offers an important opportunity for Hungarian professionals to examine whether the coronavirus vaccine if it is applicable in addition to vaccines approved in Hungary.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister explained: 16 vaccines are being developed in Turkey, the most advanced of which will soon be tested in the second clinical phase, and the third phase may begin in three to four months. The head of the Hungarian ministry emphasized that there is no professional consensus on how long the administered vaccines will provide protection, so in the coming years an effective and safe vaccine in the appropriate quantity and quality must be available, and all possibilities of cooperation examined. In this regard, he noted: Turkey, in addition to preparing for the production of Russian vaccines, has bought tens of millions of Chinese vaccines. He stressed that it should not be forgotten that Russian or Chinese vaccines, which had previously been used in the West, are now receiving increasing support in Western Europe, but at least in a wait-and-see attitude.
Péter Szijjártó also said that they had agreed with Turkey’s Health Minister that the only solution to the pandemic was the vaccine. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade also held talks with the Turkish Minister of Trade, Ruhsar Pekcan, and the Minister of Industry and Technology, Mustafa Varank.
