Gergely Karácsony spoke at InfoRadio’s Arena about the dramatic drop in income in the capital. The loss of income could be remedied by a tax increase or by a government decision:

This HUF 69 billion hole is the size from which it is no longer possible to recover from austerity measures. We want the government to repeal the capital tax and double it

The mayor said, among others, that he also spoke of waiting for the solidarity of companies that were not affected by the epidemic. These companies could help those who can with a small temporary tax.

For example, with a half percent tax.

“We are not in favor of tax increases, but I don’t think these companies will be hit by that half percent tax. This can also be taken as a solidarity tax, ”said Gergely Karácsony.

When asked how the capital can function even in the face of austerity, the mayor said that investments have been postponed, advertising and marketing costs have recovered, and basic operations have been funded through rescheduling and budget lockdowns. Such is the case of public transport, the costs of which must be covered.

We are left alone in financing public transport, which means spending 150 billion a year, if we have no income, the cars will still have to go

Said the mayor.

Gergely Karácsony will make a resumption proposal to the table of Minister Gergely Gulyás and the government at the meeting of the Budapest Public Development Council scheduled for October 15, in which they recall the decision of the General Assembly of Budapest by vote unanimous: withdraw the Budapest tax.
