Former Belarusian opposition presidential candidate Svetlana Tihanovskaya has written a list of supporters of the Alexander Lukashenko government and those responsible for the official violence that accompanied the protests, calling on the European Union to take action against them. At the same time, the politician asked the European Parliament not to vote for any financial support for the current power of Minsk.

Tyihanovskaya spoke about all this at Monday’s EP hearing on the situation in Belarus. She also requested support for the electoral call and the sending of international observers to the new elections. Her speech on Monday was her first personal appearance at the European Parliament building.

The sanctions would be an important step against the Lukashenko regime. The power of the President of Belarus has always been based on a balance between the West and Russia in favor of this and that party.

There have been protests in Belarus since the presidential elections on August 9, as the opposition disputes that Lukashenko, who has ruled the country since 1994, has won his sixth term against Tikhanovskaya. The armies are trying to suppress these demonstrations, but the EU has not yet decided on sanctions.

As before, during Sunday’s rally, the police arrested several protesters, closed the metro lines and turned off the Internet in Minsk.
