The Hungarian Association of Transylvania (EMSZ) won ten mayor positions in the municipal elections held on Sunday and helped three more independent candidates win the elections, said István Csomortányi, co-chair of the association. He considers it an important success that the EMSZ candidate has obtained the position of mayor in several micro-regional centers in Szeklerland. He mentioned: János Hunor Koncz was elected mayor of Székelykeresztúr and Csaba Lőrincz was elected mayor of Szentegyháza. The association’s success was also demonstrated by the election of János Benedek Huszár, the independent candidate, as mayor of Baró.

After summarizing the election results, the politician concluded that the total number of votes cast by DAHR and EMSZ did not reach the parliamentary threshold of five percent. According to him, this also means that the Hungarian parties must unite before the parliamentary elections on December 6 if they do not want to jeopardize representation in Bucharest.

With the avalanche of lies in recent weeks, DAHR has deprived Oradea of a Hungarian deputy mayor and the county of Bihor of a Hungarian vice president. About 15 percent of the votes cast by Hungarians in Transylvania were not won by the DAHR, making it a luxury to compare the pride of the one-party system with the smaller Hungarian political force.

In addition to the mayoral titles, DAHR also increased the number of local government representative seats. The mayors of the alliance will generally have a larger DAHR majority in local councils than four years ago, said Kelemen Hunor, who called the alliance’s electoral performance generally good.

The politician mentioned that the DAHR candidate won the post of mayor for the first time in Gyimesbükk, located on the outskirts of Szeklerland, but belonging to the Bacău county in Moldova. He also included in the earnings the fact that after 12 years of leadership of the city from the opposition, he regained the post of mayor of Gheorgheni.

Among the defeats, the politician mentioned the loss of Székelykeresztúr and Baró in Szeklerland, and Margitta in Partium.
