The railway line between Szeged and Subotica will be able to be used in the spring of 2022, representing a new connecting link between Hungary and Serbia, Péter Szijjártó said after discussing with his Serbian colleague in Budapest.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister also spoke about the fact that the Budapest-Belgrade railway line will be the fastest transportation route for Chinese goods destined for Western Europe and shipped to Greece, and therefore there is a lot of competition for the position.
According to him, gas supply has always been a critical issue for Hungary and Central Europe. A new gas pipeline will be built from Turkey through Bulgaria and Serbia, and by October 2021, the stretch connecting the Hungarian-Serbian border and the national gas pipeline system will be completed, creating a new route to guarantee gas supply.
Larger Hungarian companies, such as OTP and Mol, also play an important role in the Serbian economy, Szijjártó said. He added that the interest of Hungarian companies in Serbia will not diminish, in the framework of the tender for investments outside Hungary, 24 Hungarian companies will make a total of 49 billion HUF in Serbian investments with the support of the Hungarian government.
According to Szijjártó, among neighboring countries, Serbia guarantees the greatest number of rights and the greatest respect for the Hungarian national community, the VMSZ has been involved in the work of the government, and the speaker of the Vojvodina provincial parliament may be Hungarian.
Nikola Selakovic indicated that an agreement had been signed that would allow the presence of Serbian diplomacy where Hungary has representation but Serbia does not, and vice versa.
The Serbian Foreign Minister was also received by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
