László Tőkés, president of the Hungarian National Council of Transylvania (EMNT), encourages Hungarians in Transylvania not only to vote, but also to vote in local elections next Sunday, the MTI wrote.

László Tőkés he objected to the party’s political campaign in the church and to partisan interference by Hungarian government politicians in the campaign for local elections in Romania. The former bishop also recalled several recent cases of partisan campaign messages at church ceremonies in the Reformed Church District (KREK) in Királyhágómellék. He drew attention to the fact that while he was bishop, the Hungarian churches in Transylvania took a position on national issues, but no partisan political agitation never occurred.

According to him, he couldn’t imagine calling elections in churches and schools in Hungary. László Tőkés was shocked by Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén last week’s video message and Several recent statements by Secretary of State János Árpád Potápi.

His main objection was that the deputy prime minister unilaterally asked the Hungarians in Transylvania to support the DAHR candidates and described the other parties as unlikely. János Árpád Potápi affirmed: “a Hungarian community abroad cannot have more ethnic parties, we can only concentrate our forces in one Hungarian party.” This reminded László Tőkés of the one-party system of the old days.

László Tőkés’s detailed appeal can be read on the Transylvanian politician’s Facebook page.
