According to sources in Brussels, “it is still not 100% certain” that the decision to exclude the head of the Fidesz delegation is on the agenda. If they decide on the fate of Tamás Deutsch and exclude him, “we will all go,” an influential Fidesz politician told atv.hu.

Last week, Othmar Karas, vice president of the European People’s Party, asked the party’s group in the European Parliament to vote to exclude Tamás Deutsch from the People’s Party. The Austrian politician began collecting signatures after Tamás Deutsch compared one of the statements by German MEP Manfred Weber with the arguments of the Gestapo and ÁVO.

Tamás Deutsch apologized in a letter to Manfred Weber, leader of the Group of the European People’s Party, who said he accepted his apology.

However, Othmar Karas wrote on Twitter that he said the letter was not sincere and that his insulting statements were not withdrawn by the Hungarian politician. According to Othmar, it is “completely unacceptable” to compare the rule of law mechanism with the Gestapo, National Socialism and Communism.

Tamás Deutsch spoke in the Kossuth Radio Sunday newspaper about being a “proud member of the Group of the European People’s Party and hopes that sobriety, an effort to understand others, will guide his fellow MPs when they vote on his proposal to exclude him.” He pointed out that the method of initiating his expulsion is reminiscent of anti-democratic Hungary prior to 1990, as they want to punish him for freely expressing his opinion, defending the truth and his homeland.

By the way, his initiative to expel the Fidesz MP already has more than 40 supporters and is backed by a “silent majority” of the PPE group (182 people), wrote Othmar Karas on Twitter.

Referring to Politico, atv.hu writes that the PPE faction will discuss the proposal to exclude Tamás Deutsch on Wednesday, but it is not yet certain that they will vote on the same day.
