Gunmen attacked and robbed a money van in Lyon, central France, on Friday as it was leaving the local headquarters of the French central bank, the local prosecutor’s office confirmed on Friday.
The robbers took 9 million euros, which corresponds to about 3.1 billion guilders. No one was injured in the attack. The prosecution has initiated a process for armed robbery in a criminal association, writes the MTI.

Police were notified at 9 am by area residents. Eyewitnesses said the armed men arrived in two cars, blocked the van leaving the Banque de France building and then unloaded the bags full of money, police sources said.
The attackers set fire to the two cars that arrived at the scene and then fled in two other cars. Subsequently, the police found them on fire in the south of Lyon. No shots were fired during the robbery.
This was the most significant money laundering in France since November 2009. Then, also in Lyon, the van of the money transfer company Loomis was robbed. The driver of the vehicle, Toni Musulin, simply disappeared with the 11.6 million euros entrusted to him. A few days later, the Police found about 9 million euros of the amount in a commercial vehicle rented by the attacker under a pseudonym.
