The Capitol building and its surroundings in Washington were closed on Friday afternoon local time. Capitol Police said on an official Twitter page that
ANY VEHICLE MADE AN ATTEMPT TO CROSS THE NORTHERN PORTION OF THE BARRADE THAT PROTECTS THE BUILDING COMPLEX. THE SUSPECT HAD TWO POLICE OFFICERS, BOTH OFFICERS MADE INJURIES AND WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL.
After getting out of the car, the driver waved a knife. The Capitol security service then shot and detained the perpetrator.
The AP reported that one of the police officers was seriously injured. The news agency knows that the murderer who was shot is also in critical condition.
Currently, Capitol employees cannot leave the building and no one can enter. CNN writes that an ambulance and a helicopter also arrived at the scene.
Congress rises, with no deputies present in the building. President Joe Biden is not in the building either: he has already left the capital, spending the holidays at the presidential residence at Camp David.
The incident occurred at the point where senators arrive at the Capitol Assembly by car or walk through their offices to vote. The National Guard marched towards the barricade with all their equipment and shields.
