Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced extremely strict restrictions on Saturday afternoon, according to an article on the portal oe24.at. According to this

  • curfew restrictions extend throughout the day,
  • all shops except post offices, ABC, pharmacies and banks close,
  • in the same way as hairdressers and similar service providers,
  • everyone has to work in a home office,
  • schools are closing and switching to distance education.

The new measures will take effect at zero o’clock on Tuesday and will remain in effect until December 6 for now.

Sebastian Kurz justified the decision with the increasingly deteriorating epidemic situation. Overall, there were 9,586 new coronavirus cases recorded in Austria on Friday and 9,262 on Thursday.

In Austria, restrictive measures were in effect on October 31, but they do not appear to have been sufficient.

The chancellor asked the Austrians not to meet with anyone except in the most urgent cases, and promised the government to provide financial support to the shops doomed to close, but only if they did not fire their employees.
