A six-month-old lamb sold for a record price of £ 368,000 (HUF 145.9 million) at a Scottish auction, the online edition of The Guardian reported on Friday.

The Double Diamond sheep was bought after an exciting bidding battle by three breeders who came together to obtain the muscular-bodied, golden-haired animal at an auction in Lanark, near Glasgow, on Thursday.

Jeff Aiken, one of the three farmers, saw himself as the “genetically perfect” Double Diamond weeks before bidding.

As with other animals, such as horses or cattle, something very special rarely appears., so was this extraordinary Texel sheep. Everyone wanted a part.

Aiken said.

Individuals of the breed from the small Dutch island of Texel are in high demand, tens of thousands of pounds are regularly paid, but Thursday’s bidding battle was particularly fierce. When it started, not only the three ranchers but also other breeders formed groups to get hold of the lamb, the selling price of which broke a world record:

the most expensive sheep have yet to be sold at auction.

The previous peak was established in 2009, when more than £ 230,000 was paid for a sheep. Most of the money Aiken gave for a lamb was £ 105,000, he bought a ram named Sportsman Batman.
