Forty meters deep on the seabed, the missing Adriatic drilling platform of the Croatian oil company INA was found, wrote the Croatian daily Vecernji List.
All connections to the gas platform, located fifty kilometers northwest of Pula in Istria, were cut off on Saturday. INA has several platforms in this area. However, due to bad weather conditions, they were only able to get close to the location of the missing platform in the second half of the week, for which robotic submarines were also launched.
The 500-ton iron structure sank face down into the sea after the storm tore its supporting column in half.
There has been no connection to Ivana D for days.
The INA announced Tuesday that there were no personnel on the platform and that the emergency system was activated, which closed the safety valves on the gas platform so that the accident would not have a detrimental effect on the environment.
Tvrtko Perković, INA’s chief director of research and production, told the newspaper that the law requires them to lift the iron structure from the sea. The well can then be put back into service or, if they decide to shut it down, they will have to concrete the drill site.
The platform was commissioned in 2001 by an Italian company, Saipem. Back then it was worth $ 12 million. However, according to Perković, such a platform already costs $ 15 million at current prices.
