In the Czech Republic, the quarantine was ordered again after Christmas due to a sudden increase in the number of people infected with the coronavirus since Sunday. The Prague government has issued the highest level of epidemiological alert. Most stores, MTI writes, have to close again just a month after they could open. Only grocery stores and pharmacies can be open. Stores can only sell essential items. Nationwide curfews and nighttime curfews were enforced between 9:00 p.m. A maximum of two people can meet in public spaces, no exception to the regulation is foreseen for New Year’s Eve.
A maximum of fifteen people can attend weddings and funerals. Winter sports are also affected by restrictions, the ski lifts are stopped.
The strict epidemiological rules will remain in effect until January 10 for now.
According to Czech health authorities, 2,669 new infections were recorded on Saturday, bringing their number to almost 668,000 since the outbreak. In a country with a population of 10.7 million, the coronavirus claimed the lives of about 10,950 people.
