Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed health authorities to begin vaccinating the population next week, Reuters reports.
Let’s agree on something: you won’t send me a report next week, but you will start vaccinating people en masse. Let’s get to work!
– Head of State Tatyana Golikova told the Deputy Prime Minister for Health, Social Policy, Work and Pensions after a record 587 deaths were reported daily. Russia has so far reported the fourth highest number of infections in the world after the United States, India and Brazil.
Golikova said that mass vaccinations could start from December.
And the Kremlin said that the Russian vaccine would be administered first to its own citizens.
Russian-made vaccines will primarily meet the needs of Russians
Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
The Russians are reported to have two million vaccinations in a few days. Last month, a vaccine called Sputynik V was found to be effective in 92% of cases during testing, at least according to Russian authorities.
