According to original plans, the EPP will meet on Wednesday night to discuss whether to exclude the Hungarian politician who comments on the statements of the faction leader Manfred Weber in parallel with the Gestapo and Avos.
A motion was made to exclude the Fidesz representative, which was supported by a significant number of PPE members. To avoid this, Deutsch apologized twice to Manfred Weber.
According to the leaked draft, membership of Tamás Deutsch would be subject to the following conditions by the PPE:
- deprive the Fidesz politician of the right to speak on behalf of the party’s family,
- they cannot hold official positions on behalf of the PPE.
The draft final declaration also asks Fidesz MEPs to:
- reassess whether your political convictions are in line with the PPE’s core values,
- operate in accordance with the values of the EPP family of parties.
However, it also predicts that, as soon as the health situation allows,
Members of the EPP make their final decision on the fate of Fidesz membership.
