British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced partial restrictions on operations in the hotel sector on Tuesday to slow the accelerating spread of the new type of coronavirus, writes the MTI.

However, the head of government, who briefed members of the House of Commons in London, emphasized that it was not about the country returning to the total shutdown ordered at the end of March.

There are no blanket instructions for people to stay home, schools and universities to stay open.

The London government is asking office workers to continue working from home if possible. However, in sectors where this is not possible, such as retail and construction, the government is asking employees to keep coming to work.

Boris Johnson confirmed that British restaurants will only be open from Thursday until 10 pm, and that restaurants and pubs will only have table orders and services, and bar counters cannot be ordered or consumed.

The British Prime Minister also announced that as of Monday, a maximum of 15 guests will be able to attend the wedding ceremonies instead of the current upper limit of 30 people, while the funeral will remain open for 30 people.

Another important change is that, contrary to the original plans, as of October 1 it will not be possible to hold large-scale company congresses, exhibitions or sporting events.

Under the government decree, retailers and taxi passengers will now also have to wear the mask. Also, inside restaurants, employees and guests must wear masks, but the latter only until they have sat down at their tables.

The prime minister said the government had raised the lower limit on fines for breaching the rules from £ 100 to £ 200,000 and could still impose fines of up to £ 10,000 on those forced to segregate but did not comply.

Boris Johnson stated that if there is no tangible progress in the development of a vaccine or a new treatment or in the massive trials, it should be assumed that

the measures now imposed can remain in force for a period of six months.

To justify the tightening, the British prime minister said that a month ago, an average of 1,000 new coronavirus infections were detected by screening in the UK a month ago, but that number has nearly quadrupled to an average of close to four thousand a day.

Johnson emphasized that this not only reflects an increase in the number of tests performed, but also an increase in the proportion of positive findings relative to the number of tests. He added that currently only 8 percent of the population has an antibody that provides protection against the coronavirus.

The British Department of Health announced on Monday night that chief doctors from four UK countries – England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – proposed that the British government raise epidemic preparedness from a third to a fourth level in the five-point readiness scale.

The chief doctors argue that the number of recently screened coronavirus infections will rise rapidly, probably at an exponential rate, in several areas.
