The UK’s daily total of deaths from the coronavirus epidemic, released on Wednesday, includes more than 1,800 deaths, but the figure also includes a number of deaths that have occurred in the past. At the same time, the number of newly tested coronavirus infections has dropped significantly again, and more than five million of the coronavirus vaccines have already been administered, the MTI writes.
According to a report by the UK Department of Health on Wednesday night, 38,905 new infections were identified by screening across the country last day. In previous weeks, more than 60,000 new infections, sometimes close to 70,000 per day, have been tested in Britain almost every day. Wednesday is the fourth day in a row that testing has detected fewer than 40,000 new coronavirus infections.
According to new data from the ministry, 294,182 coronavirus infections were tested in the week ending Wednesday. This is 80,593, 21.5 percent less than the number of new infections detected in the same period a week earlier. According to the British government’s calculation methodology, which takes into account deaths that occur within 28 days of being diagnosed with a coronavirus infection, 1,820 patients died on Wednesday.
In Britain, taking into account Wednesday’s data set, 93,290 people have so far died from Covid-19 disease caused by a new type of coronavirus. Of the countries in the world, only the United States, Brazil, India and Mexico have more deaths from the coronavirus epidemic.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Wednesday night that the current very high death rate is the result of an increase in the wave of infection a few weeks ago. However, he stressed that as the vaccination campaign accelerates, a significant change in the epidemic situation in the UK is expected as early as spring.
