The leaders of the member states of the European Union debated in videoconference this Thursday, in addition to reviewing the control of the coronavirus epidemic and the status of the EU vaccination campaign, among others, the international relations of the community, including the EU-Russia relationship.

According to previous information from the European Council, in the two-day meeting, the leaders of the Member States will review, above all, the problems of vaccines and the epidemic situation, and will continue to coordinate responses to the pandemic crisis. They also address the issue of the introduction of vaccination certificates.

In a report from Népszava, he writes that the participants of the summit on Thursday, the first day, gave the green light to the creation of a security card to facilitate travel within the Schengen borders and decided that technical preparations should be accelerated.

At the event, German Chancellor Angela Merkel clipped Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz’s speech on vaccine distribution, as she said:

the treaties were signed by the Member States, not by stupid bureaucrats!

As before, Kurz argued in a video conference that the distribution of vaccines within the EU was unfair, so Austria, along with five other Central and Eastern European member states, should be compensated for the additional 10 million doses of Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine purchased by the European Commission.

After some time, the leaders of the member states suspended the “vaccine debate” and discussed economic and foreign policy issues, the newspaper said.
