Index – Foreign – If you don’t understand national politics, you won’t get paid

Every year, the Hungarian government provides one-time social support to Transcarpathian Hungarians working in Hungarian in education, culture, public administration or health care through the Charitable Foundation for the Hungarian College of Transcarpathia, which belongs to the Cultural Association Hungarian Transcarpathian (KMKSZ).

Ukrainian authorities also conducted a house search at the foundation’s headquarters during the November 30 raid, and an investigation is ongoing.

The amount of aid from the Hungarian state is between 300,000 and 500,000 HUF once a year. This is delivered as a salary supplement as a kind of incentive, in recognition of the performance of the beneficiaries, to remain in the profession. About 8,000 have applied this year.

At least sixty teachers teaching in Hungarian schools have lost support. This was one of the first reported by karpathir.com citing a closed Facebook group. According to the members, dozens of teachers did not receive the scholarships managed by the KMKSZ foundation,

Several asked if the authorities could count on the amount and asked why their application was rejected. They have the answer that

its activities are incompatible with the objectives of Hungarian national policy.

A telephone consultation of this type was also recorded.

The principal of the Széchenyi István No. 2 Secondary School in Tapi, László Maha, announced on the SC side that he did not receive the support, although his activity meets the conditions of the call:

Hearts don’t bleed for them

That’s right, I agree, they don’t even deserve it

– said a Transcarpathian source who asked that the name not be published in the Index, who believes that those who started with the colors of openly anti-Hungarian parties could not expect the support of the Hungarian state.

As an example, Ridne cited Zakarpattya’s party, whose founding members were all members of the parliament in Kiev, and all voted in favor of a language and education law that undermined minority rights. The Tapi high school principal also started with Andrij Baloga’s team colors, marked by the name of the son of an influential transcarpathian businessman and Member of Parliament, Viktor Baloga, known for his anti-Hungarian outbursts.

Obviously, you shouldn’t even get Hungarian money like that.

Added the source.

The Hungarian is an ally of the Hungarians

Language and education laws are the hardest hit for the Hungarian community, and the Ukrainian parties in question speak with one voice, support the laws

– György Dunda, the editor of the Carpathian True Word newspaper, drew attention.

Those Hungarian public figures in Transcarpathia who wanted to enter a political career could choose between two Hungarian parties, the KMKSZ and the Hungarian Democratic Union of Ukraine (UMDSZ). In light of this, there is no moral basis for outrage at the Hungarian government’s withdrawal of support for those who ran in the colors of the Ukrainian party in municipal elections. Mainly also because they receive Hungarian votes, thus weakening the political representation of the community, the head of the Transcarpathian newspaper told Index. Added:

And the national policy is clear in all areas beyond borders: Hungary is Hungary’s number one ally.

Political orientation is not a criterion

The presidency of the UMDSZ reacted to the events in a statement. Featured,

Nowhere in the call for proposals is there a criterion that determines the public activity, role and political orientation of the applicant.

On the other hand, he drew attention to the fact that the Ukrainian constitution also clearly states that all citizens have the right to civil liberties, including the right to vote and stand as candidates.

Furthermore, the UMDSZ presidency believes that the decision “will result in the division of a handful of Hungarians, which will clearly lead to further weakening of our community.”

The Index also contacted the charity, but they did not want to respond to the suggestions.

Breaking between parties and within them

It caused great astonishment in Transcarpathia that after the UMDSZ could not reach an agreement with the KMKSZ on cooperation in the municipal elections, it filled the Slave of the People with the Ukrainian government party, which on the one hand did not want to hear about the atrocities and pressures in the last two months – explained György Dunda.

This also caused a serious conflict within the UMDSZ: several people suspended their membership or withdrew. One of them is Csaba Péter, the former vice president of the Democratic Alliance, with whom the True Word of the Carpathians prepared an annual evaluator on the subject.

László Zubánics, president of the UMDSZ, told Index about the agreement with the ruling party: it was a memorandum on establishing local cooperation after the elections, and it did not apply to the elections at all. Within the Democratic Alliance, however, a dividing line emerged and thus split into two groups: one made up of supporters of Hungarian-Hungarian cooperation and the other supporter of the presidency. Consequently, there is no consensus on the issue of social assistance and, according to our anonymous source, the majority agree:

Whoever does not join the Hungarians does not deserve support.

Our source also made the accusation: the UMDSZ was already completely under Ukrainian influence, some of the alliance members “went to the Ukrainians”.

Zubánics, for its part, drew attention to the fact that it was about the withdrawal of social benefits

You can support Ukraine’s allegations that Hungary tried to influence Hungarians in Transcarpathia to vote in municipal elections by means of financial subsidies or by withdrawing them.
