After Budapest and four counties, seven more Hungarian counties were added on Wednesday to the list of areas in Germany that are considered risky due to the spread of the new type of coronavirus.

The updated list of the Robert Koch National Institute of Public Health (RKI) includes the capital and eleven counties of Hungary. Budapest was added to the list on September 16, Győr-Moson-Sopron was classified as risky on September 23 and Csongrád-Csanád, Vas and Pest were added to the list on Wednesday September 30, Baranya, Borsod-Abaúj- Zemplén, Hajdú -The counties of Bihar, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Komárom-Esztergom, Nógrád and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg were classified as risk zones.

The list does not include the counties of Bács-Kiskun, Békés, Fejér, Heves, Somogy, Tolna, Veszprém and Zala.

The risk classification means that those arriving in Germany from such an area must go into home quarantine for 14 days and notify the local health office. In the case of a negative coronavirus test on arrival, the health office may order the quarantine to be lifted. Under a new rule that is expected to go into effect in mid-October, a test cannot be taken before the fifth day.

The risk classification is jointly decided by the RKI, the Federal Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior. The first phase of the pre-decision analysis examines where there are regions (larger administrative units or entire countries) in which the number of SARS-Cov-2 infections per 100,000 registered inhabitants has exceeded in the last seven days, or areas the number of infected still does not exceed the limit, but other conditions indicate an increased risk of infection.

In the second phase of pre-decision consideration, local efforts to suppress the epidemic are analyzed to examine, among other things, the testing capacity and the number of coronavirus tests performed.

The risk classification also involves the issuance of a travel warning by the Foreign Ministry, in which it strongly discourages German citizens from visiting the region if it is not absolutely necessary.
