Once again, the daily number of newly identified coronavirus infections in Germany was broken, according to data from the Robert Koch Institute for Public Health (RKI) on Friday, reported by the MTI. In the last twenty-four hours, the new type of coronavirus has been detected in 23,648 people, 106 times the previous peak of 23,542 registered a week earlier.
RKI director Lothar Wieler said the wave is peaking in Germany, but the number of new cases per day may start to decline in the coming days. Along with the new cases, the Germans registered 879,564 confirmed infections, and the number of deaths related to the disease caused by the virus increased by 260 in one day, so there are already 13,630 victims of the epidemic.
The number of people needing intensive care due to Covid-19 increased by 27 in one day to 3,588. Approximately sixty percent of them, 2,084 patients, need mechanical ventilation and operate 28,207 intensive care beds nationwide, of which 6,273 beds are free.
