A Ukrainian An-26 military transport vehicle carrying cadets crashed in the Kharkiv region. In addition to the crew, cadets from the Ukrainian Air Force University in Kharkiv were on board.
The headquarters of the Ukrainian Air Force reported that the accident occurred during a landing near the city of Chuguyev. According to press reports, about thirty were on board, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry clarified that there were twenty-three on board, a crew of five and eighteen cadets.
Ukrainian emergency services later said, citing air traffic control, that there were 28 on board the plane. Twenty-two bodies were found, two were injured and four more were searched. Not long ago, there were reports of 18 more dead and two seriously injured.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he would travel to the crash site on Saturday.
In social media images, a flaming accident could be seen in the dark. The cause of the accident is still unknown.
