Dusan Kovácik, head of Slovakia’s special prosecutor’s office for the most serious crimes, was arrested in Bratislava on Thursday, according to the website of the independent daily Deník N, to which the MTI refers.

Along with Kovacs, a high-ranking police officer was also arrested. Both are suspected of having assisted an anonymous criminal organization.

Police and prosecutors did not confirm or refute the correspondence.

The EU’s call for 100 million tenders was posted on an unmarked bulletin board in just one of the ministry’s closed corridors.

The Slovak Special Prosecutor’s Office was established in 2004 and has been its Chairman since the establishment of Dusan Kovácik. His term would expire next year. This prosecutor’s office deals with the most serious crimes and corruption cases which, after prosecution, are brought before a special criminal court in Pezin, near Bratislava.
