The downward trend of diesel cars has continued in Hungary for the seventh year in a row, during which time its share among new passenger cars marketed has decreased from 46 to 22 percent, JóAutók.hu said.
The online used car market highlighted that in the first ten months of this year, 22 percent of new passenger cars marketed in Hungary were powered by diesel, while in the same period the proportion of cars with additional or exclusively electric motors it reached 27 percent.
If internal combustion engines are scrapped, many can find themselves in a difficult position.
According to the CEO of JóAutók.hu, the figures indicate a significant change even if we remove mild hybrid vehicles from electric cars, which are practically conventional, because not a small electric motor helps the internal combustion engine in driving, only in the booting and accelerating dynamically. .
Hybrids and plug-ins, as well as cars powered by purely electric motors, already account for 11 percent of new car sales this year, up from 6 percent last year, Bertalan Halász said.
In the past, most of those who switched from diesel switched to gasoline propulsion, but in the last two years, partially or fully electric vehicles have increasingly absorbed the demand for both types of internal combustion engines.
Among the reasons for the loss of confidence in diesel engines, the announcement mentions that diesel cars can have much higher repair costs, and restrictions on diesel passenger cars are being introduced in more and more Western cities, which increases uncertainty about the future usability of vehicles. Meanwhile, the price advantage of diesel at the wells previously experienced has also disappeared, and environmental awareness has come to the fore.
Conventional cars currently in circulation will be allowed to remain on the roads, but their sale or purchase will be prohibited.
At the same time, JóAutók.hu also indicated that the share of diesel cars in domestic used car imports remains high, more than 40 percent. The main reason for this is that, as a result of environmental measures in Western Europe, older cars with a rating below the euro5 are available in these markets up to 15-20 percent cheaper than before.
As a result, the composition of used car imports is shifting significantly towards older and highly polluting vehicles, so there is a need to tighten current regulations, which will mainly shift imports towards used cars with technical characteristics and more modern environmental, emphasized JóAutók.hu.
